PID – INFN Programme for Teachers is a training course offered by INFN to secondary school teachers.
At least three courses are organised per year at INFN National Laboratories. Each course lasts 5 days and includes theoretical and experimental lectures on nuclear and astroparticle physics and accelerator physics: particular attention is paid to the interdisciplinary aspects of the research.
In 2020, the collaboration with Pearson for Science on the PID@HOME programme began. The 2020 and 2021 editions were held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were both very successful. In 2021, the PID@HOME course, with MIUR accreditation, dealt with the topic of Big Data and the possibility of using Open Data and Open Source methods for innovative teaching in the classroom, with the participation of over 600 teachers.
As a result of the success, the lessons of the 2021 course were made available online on the Pearson for Science Moodle platform.
Since November 2021 PID activities in national laboratories have started again, with a course at National Laboratories of Legnaro, with lectures, laboratory activities on Particle Physics and its application on cultural heritage, medicine and environement.
