Mistakes, hoaxes and errors populate the road that man has travelled to understand and interpret the Universe. And not only in the ancient vision of an anthropomorphic nature, constituted by spirits and gods. It was also the case after the Galileo method taught us to look more carefully and intelligently at natural phenomena. And even today, in our era of hyper-technology and global communication, we can – and often do – make amazing blunders.

The Science blunders exhibition will narrate how errors inevitably accompany the human desire to know: great discoveries – sometimes made by accident – are intertwined with glaring oversights. Scientists in fact take into the laboratory – and it is difficult not to do so – their religious, philosophical and cultural beliefs. In reality, however, correcting one’s mistakes is the very essence of the scientific method, pioneered by Galileo more than 400 years ago. What matters is not to lose the wonder and curiosity of the world. Making mistakes is part of the game.

After the great success of the first edition in Pisa in 2014, Science blunders has been opened in Catania in 2016 at Città della scienza, with a new edition. The exhibition is  curated by National Institute for Nuclear Physics, University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa.
